Our History
Union Baptist Church began as a small congregation in Sydney, united by a commitment to biblical teaching, prayer, and service to the local community. Its early life centred on a modest brick chapel, where families gathered for Sunday worship, Bible study, and fellowship.
The chapel reflected the simplicity of those beginnings. With its timber entrance doors, traditional church sign, and intimate worship space, it provided a welcoming home for a growing congregation. By 2006, this small building remained at the heart of church life, hosting services, prayer meetings, and gatherings across generations.
As the congregation grew, the need for additional space became increasingly apparent. The church’s facilities were gradually developed to accommodate worship, children’s activities, pastoral care, and the practical needs of a larger community.
The present church carries echoes of the original chapel through its brickwork, sandstone entrance, and familiar cross. Inside, a larger sanctuary brings together timber finishes, contemporary seating, and facilities that support preaching, music, and congregational worship. Dedicated meeting spaces also provide room for pastors and elders to pray, plan, and serve together.
From its modest beginnings to its present setting, Union Baptist Church’s story is one of shared faith and steady growth. Its purpose remains rooted in the life of the congregation: to teach the Scriptures, nurture believers, welcome newcomers, and serve the community with care.
