Susan Lawson

Choir Director

Susan Lawson

Susan Lawson has served as Choir Director at Union Baptist Church since 2017, having first joined the congregation in 2013. She leads rehearsals, prepares music for weekly worship, and coordinates special performances for Easter, Christmas, and other church occasions.

A Life in Music

Susan grew up in Sydney in a family where music was part of everyday life. Her mother played piano and her father sang in a community choir. Susan began piano lessons at seven and joined her first church choir as a teenager, discovering an interest in both performance and shared worship.

After studying music and vocal performance, Susan built a career in music education, teaching piano and singing and directing school and community ensembles. Working with singers of different ages and abilities shaped her encouraging approach to choir leadership.

Choir and Community Service

At Union Baptist Church, Susan helps choir members develop their voices, understand the meaning of the songs they sing, and work together as an ensemble. She welcomes new singers and creates opportunities for younger members to take part in the church’s musical life.

Beyond the church, Susan has helped organise charity concerts and performances at aged-care residences.

Family and Interests

Susan and her husband, Andrew, have a daughter who shares her interest in music. Susan enjoys attending live performances, reading, and spending time with her family.

Music for Worship

Susan’s aim is to help the choir offer music that is thoughtfully prepared, heartfelt, and welcoming to the whole congregation.
